Intern Diary: Olivia

I have been looking forward to this internship since the day I found out I would be a JMG summer intern! It is crazy to think my time here with JMG PR is almost up. This was my first PR internship that I have had and I can’t believe how much I’ve learned this summer. One thing I have always been told is that classroom PR is very different from real life PR and I was always wondering “ok so what does real life PR look like?” and this past summer I learned exactly that.

I loved that during this internship no day looked the exact same, I was challenged everyday with a different task (or multiple of them). This internship was hands-on which is what I wanted, not like an “internship” you think of when people are just running around getting coffee for everyone. My day-to-day tasks included writing and sending out pitches, working on media lists, social media posts, mock-up summaries, proposals and briefing docs just to name a few.

I can see the improvement I have made from the start of this internship till now and I am so grateful for all the skills I have learned! I didn’t know how to do the majority of the tasks listed above before coming into this internship or really what some of them were. Thankfully I had great mentors who were always willing to help me and give me feedback. Now I can confidently say I feel comfortable drafting pitches, building media lists, writing proposals, etc.

Having a taste of the real life PR world under my belt, I am excited to see what else is out there and thanks to JMGPR, they have given me the skills to do that!
