Intern Diary: Tabby

I learned about JMG Public Relations during my time with the CSUF PRSSA 2021-2022 Executive Board. Their social media constantly interacted with PRSSA students, and I just so happened to follow them well before applying for their internship. Fast forward to the summer of 2022, and I was searching for my fall internship. I saw JMG’s post searching for fall interns and decided to take my shot at it.

As I near the end of my PR internship at JMG Public Relations, I’ve had the time to reflect on the last few months. In the beginning, I was nervous and unsure of myself, not having much experience with traditional PR work. I kept thinking that I wouldn’t live up to expectations for my internship and was worried that my previous experience didn’t prepare me enough. However, I can confidently say that I was welcomed right away by the JMG team.

Under Sara’s supervision for my internship, she was able to help me expand my knowledge of the PR agency world. We always had great conversations, getting to know one another, and I immediately felt comfortable asking her any questions about any work I was assigned. She truly had an impact on my confidence and ability to expand on my set of skills working in PR.

Even though most of us are long distance from each other, it was still easy to become friends with the rest of the team and enjoy each other’s company. Every day I had Sip the Tea to look forward to! It was an excellent opportunity for us to not just talk about daily gossip but to check up on one another.

I became more comfortable with the work and routine as time passed. From working on media lists, to press summaries and eventually drafting and sending out pitches, I was learning more and more about PR life. I am probably an expert when it comes to Muck Rack and Coveragebook now. I also learned so much about our clients and found a new appreciation for each field. This was one aspect I truly loved about the internship. Learning so much about different places, people, and backgrounds. This internship provided the experience necessary to work in PR. Each day, it didn’t feel like I was doing mundane tasks, but I felt I was getting valuable work experience.

I was thrilled to have been offered an internship at JMG. I didn’t know what to expect, but I’m thankful I came across their Instagram account and saw their internship postings. I can’t thank Jenna and the JMG team enough for giving me this opportunity! Thank you to Sara for being so patient, amazing, and supportive during my internship! And thank you to the rest of the team for always being fun and supportive. I will miss seeing you all each week during Sip the Tea! JMG Public Relations will always have a special place in my heart for being my first internship. I will take everything I learned here with me as I move forward in my professional life.
