Intern Diary: Emma

Within one week, I went from interviewing at JMG to accepting the job while studying abroad in Rome, Italy! It feels like forever ago, but I still remember thinking I was a complete mess during the interview. I had an interview at 10:30 am, and I left for JFK airport right after and thought my flying nerves had made me seem extremely nervous during the interview. I remember when I got the email about the job offer, I was so confused because I was so sure that I had bombed the interview. However, I was obviously wrong, as here I am writing this diary to all of you as my internship as a Public Relations Intern at JMG comes to a close.

Going into my first day, I was extremely nervous because I had never worked for an agency. I had previous internship experience, but I had never worked in PR. However, my nerves were gone once I joined my first meeting. I realized everyone was welcoming and wanted to get to know me, from my morning meetings with Sara to sipping the tea in the afternoons with the rest of the team. The work culture has been amazing, and I loved getting to know everyone throughout my time at JMG.

Working at such a supportive place has helped me grow and learn more about public relations than I expected when going into this internship. Everyone at JMG is highly knowledgeable about PR and wants to help you learn as much as possible. Through this internship, I gained first-hand experience working on PR tasks. I had worked on all these tasks in class but had never applied what I learned to real clients and media contacts. I worked on media lists, coverage reports, pitches, and other related tasks that gave me the real-world PR experience I was searching for when applying to internships for the fall semester.

This experience has made me even more passionate about PR, and I am incredibly grateful to have spent the last semester working at JMG! So, thank you, Jenna, for this incredible opportunity and giving me a chance this semester! To Sara, thank you for being the best mentor throughout this whole process and guiding me throughout every task. To the rest of the team and interns, thank you for being the absolute best and making this an experience I will always cherise!
