Intern Diary: Alyssa

As I struggled for months trying to find the right internship for me, I saw my friend Arcely post about JMG-PR, and I knew I had to ask her if they were hiring. I had always wanted an internship in public relations to learn more about it, to get real-world industry experience, and to work in the constantly evolving fast-paced environment that it offers. Since I never had a formal internship before, I was nervous to see what it was going to be like, what was going to be expected of me, and if I was going to be good at it. It’s safe to say that from the very first minute of my interview with Jenna, I knew this would be a great opportunity for me. From the interview, to the onboarding process, and then to the first day of meeting my Account Executive, Kristen, and Account Coordinator, Erika, it was such a seamless and enjoyable experience.

My Work Space

On my first day, I remember I had woken up and gotten ready at 6:30 am even though my internship didn’t start until 10 am because I wanted to make sure I was fully prepared. I had set up my desk area, had my coffee and snacks, and my JMG notebook, and was just nervously staring at the screen of my computer, waiting to join the Zoom meeting with Kristen and Erika. As soon as I had entered the call, I knew there was nothing to be worried about. From that first call and all the way until now, I’ve been treated with respect and valued as an intern. I instantly clicked with both Kristen and Erika and looked forward to my Tuesday and Thursday morning meetings with the both of them.

JMG did an incredible job of making me feel welcome and a part of a big family. I especially love our “Sip the Tea” meetings where we all get together to just gossip and talk about celebrity and world news for thirty minutes; it’s a great way of connecting with all the other staff and interns and the perfect de-stressor in the middle of the workday.

My Copy of "You Need PR" by Jenna

I’ve learned so much valuable information and skills from my time working here, that I am so grateful for. Whether it’s media lists, briefing documents, press clippings and summaries, writing pitches, or doing research, I learned more than I ever imagined I would. JMG goes above and beyond teaching beginners, like me, the ins and outs of PR. As a whole, JMG is a company made up of great hard-working, kind-hearted, and passionate individuals, who are always ready to help you and answer any questions you may have. Regarding the day-to-day tasks, the daily routine at JMG is never the same. Some days can be spent gathering clients for media lists, or writing and sending out pitches for our clients, or writing press summaries, etc., making it full of new and unique tasks to work on every day.

I can’t thank Jenna, Kristen, and Erika enough for this amazing experience I’ve had and a big thanks to the rest of the team as well for always being so welcoming and kind to me. These past three months of interning for JMG have been incredible thanks to you all!
