Intern Diary: Raegan

As a girl from a small town in Texas, I knew chasing my dreams of working in public relations in a big city would require hard work, determination, and taking every opportunity presented to me. In perhaps the most Gen Z fashion, I was led to JMG PR through social media! During the fall of my junior year, I began searching for an internship opportunity in public relations. I applied after seeing the posting on JMG’s Instagram page, and was drawn to the type of clients and unique story of the agency. After my interview, receiving the phone call with the offer was a pivotal moment for me. Finally, someone recognized my potential to begin a professional career in public relations.

This semester, I was met with a lot of adversity both personally and professionally. From working three jobs, to taking eighteen hours of coursework, balancing this internship at times was daunting. However, the team at JMG PR met me with patience and understanding, allowing me to utilize this opportunity to gain agency experience that will set the foundation for my professional career. I also was able to share more about myself and my personal interests through our daily ‘Sip the Tea’ sessions, where we discussed pop-culture happenings with other interns and executives. Not only did I learn about the daily tasks of an agency, but I was able to showcase myself and make connections with working professionals, which is extremely valuable as I pave my way into the field.

I want to extend my sincere appreciation and gratitude to the entire JMG team, but especially to my Account Coordinator, Alyssa, for meeting me everyday with kindness and patience. Her guidance over the last six months has provided me with the skills necessary to begin my career in public relations. More than this, she made sure to check-in on me and ask how I was doing, which may seem small, but speaks volumes to her values as a mentor.

I would also like to extend my gratitude to Jenna, for seeing my potential and trusting me to the daily tasks of her agency. My internship experience at JMG has set me up for success and allowed me to see the fruits of my education in the professional world. I am extremely grateful for the guidance and knowledge of the JMG Team and will always look back at my first internship experience with thankfulness and now, excitement, for the journey ahead!
