Intern Diary: Ryleigh

As my time as an intern at JMG Public Relations comes to an end, I was given the opportunity to write another diary entry about my experience. After completing my first internship with JMG in May, I accepted the invitation to extend my internship throughout the summer term. From my first week of internship to my last, the team members at JMG have treated me as an integral part of the team and given me countless opportunities to grow as an aspiring public relations professional.

I interned with two extremely talented senior account executives, Marisa and Kristen, who provided me with invaluable knowledge, guidance, and opportunities for growth. Each leader created a supportive environment where I felt encouraged to explore new ideas and embrace creativity in my work.

During my first semester of interning, I was taught the basics of media list research and development, the pitching process, and drafting press releases, allowing me to build a solid foundation in client relations. As the summer term began, the increased trust from my executives allowed me to take on more tasks, which fostered professional growth and a deeper sense of responsibility. The willingness of the leaders at JMG to invest their time and effort in my growth as an intern motivated me to complete my work with intention and make meaningful contributions to the company.

Interning with JMG for eight months has put me in a unique position as it not only allowed me to hone my professional skills but also allowed me to witness how strong the company culture is at JMG. I recently had the opportunity to work on a client’s upcoming book launch where I was introduced to the idea that in order to be successful in life, you must be a sponge.

Being a sponge means that you continuously soak up knowledge and just like a sponge, you also pour out knowledge to those around you. This concept stuck out to me as I’ve been reflecting on my time here with JMG. As odd as it might sound, every leader at JMG truly embodies the meaning of being a sponge. Each team member is continuously working to expand their knowledge, stimulate creativity, embrace new ideas, and pour knowledge out to each other. This type of company culture is not often found, and it has truly been an exceptional experience to be a part of.

Interning with JMG has left a lasting impact on me, shaping my professional values and inspiring me to strive for excellence in my future work. I’m extremely grateful to Jenna for allowing me to play a small role in such an amazing company. I feel fortunate to have been a part of this internship, and I’m thankful to every JMG team member for their kindness and guidance throughout this journey.
