Intern Diary: Samantha

For a video that I completed during the summer for the agency’s social media channels I was given the task of coming up with three words to describe my time at JMG PR. I chose the words; innovative, welcoming, and supportive. I came up with those words a little while ago, and am glad to see I have only further grown in sentiment for my time at the agency. While being remote was not how I envisioned my summer, especially since the previous summer I spent the whole time in the Adirondacks, I was uneasy my first day.

This feeling quickly went away. My first day I met my wonderful mentor Marisa, who was nothing if not kind and supportive. Her easing tone waved away all my worries. My day started at 10am and around two hours later, I was met with other friendly faces. I quickly learned that a smile, whether it be in person or on zoom, has more impact than one may imagine. I was facing women with brilliance, elegance, and an inviting nature.

As the summer continued, and my first day jitters were gone, I was happy to see that this positive energy never diffused. In fact, it grew. All the members of the team became more and more comfortable. We started embarking on journeys of truly getting to know another. Despite the fact that we were over zoom, and in some cases thousands of miles from one another, we began to reach a certain understanding. So much so, that we often would reach out to another member to send them a post or news that we thought they might enjoy. To think, over the computer, a bond was formed. Sip the Tea calls became more lively and filled with laughter. I do not think I will ever be filled with more celebrity gossip than I have right now at this current moment.

But, that was not what those calls were about. The discussion of strangers was mere repartee, but listening to others viewpoints on a variety of topics was riveting. People who come from different backgrounds, and have different thought patterns were able to give each other the respect to share their opinion freely-and without judgment. I hope I am able to carry this mature and caring discourse into future occupational conversations I may have.

I am so grateful for this opportunity to jumpstart my PR journey and to be surrounded by such warm and influential women. I am sad to see the end date come sooner and sooner, but I am truly grateful that I will be able to look back at summer 2022 with nothing but a smile and a great appreciation. To CEO Jenna, you have been my guidepost this summer. Thank you for seeing my potential and allowing me this opportunity.

To Marisa, thank you for guiding me throughout every task and showing me the importance that PR has in so many different aspects. To Sara, Kristen, Erika, and Arcely thank you for the constant wisdom and laughs. To my fellow interns, I wish you nothing but success in your future endeavors. Thank you JMG PR for an experience I will never forget!
