Intern Diary: Maya

Three words that describe my Social Media Summer Internship at JMG PR are Creative, Autonomous, and Strategic.

Creative: This internship got my creative juices flowing because it challenged me daily to think of new ideas for posts and stories that we have not done before. As a creative individual, I loved this challenge and am most proud of the brainstorming I have done for the reel trends like the 5-9 videos, POV: my happy place, and He’s a 10.

Autonomous: Due to the nature of my position, I had the freedom to create my own schedule and decide what I would like to work on and when. I particularly appreciated this because I had independence while ensuring that all the projects would be completed in a timely manner.

Strategic: When creating content, I always had a specific goal in mind in who the content would target to increase the account’s engagement. This applied to the captions, hashtags, posts, songs, and trends we followed. When our Instagram lost followers, we utilized the “Little Miss” trends and created a trendy graphic that engaged our followers. This graphic totally took off and increased our engagement by 1,360%.

I could not have done this internship without the help of every single person at JMG Public Relations. To JMG PR’s CEO, Jenna, for her collaboration and guidance, and the rest of the team for their “yes” oriented attitude whenever I brought up a new video idea to them. I could not have done it without them. Thank you!
