Intern Diary: Amanda

Toward the end of this summer, I felt somewhat discouraged in my pursuit of an internship. Despite investing significant time in editing my résumé and exploring opportunities on LinkedIn, I continued to face difficulties in finding companies that stood out or sparked my excitement. On a whim, I decided to search “PR agencies” on Instagram, simply out of curiosity, as I had never really considered using the platform for job searching before.

I stumbled upon one of JMG's Barbie movie posts and was immediately intrigued by their content. Typically, I would take time to heavily contemplate whether I should apply for a job or not, but with JMG, I submitted my application as soon as possible. On my first day, I felt somewhat nervous, fearing that I may feel unprepared or overwhelmed. My fears quickly went away, thanks to Erika, my amazing Account Executive. Erika was always there to answer any questions I had (no matter how small) and made me feel welcome.

Among the highlights of my internship, I particularly enjoyed engaging in media research and constructing media lists for clients. This experience provided a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes of PR operations, which I had yet to truly see for myself. Seeing our clients secure coverage from some of the most prominent publications in media and realizing that I played a small role in facilitating it was an immensely gratifying feeling.

I am proud of myself for successfully completing my fall semester internship because it has taught me the invaluable skills of time prioritization and the ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously. During my time at JMG, I gained insights into both my strengths and weaknesses through hands-on, practical exposure. This recognition provided me with the chance to build upon and aspire to continue growing in these areas.

I would like to express my gratitude to Jenna Guarneri and the entire JMG team for providing an enriching internship experience that will undoubtedly stay with me as I embark on my future endeavors.
