Intern Diaries: Michelle T.

Ever since a young age, I was always drawn towards the arts. I owned piles of sketchbooks, and my school notes were filled with drawings. Throughout high school, I was the designated student to decorate the school halls for holidays and special events, create theater sets, and design the yearbook. Once I started college and began exploring different career options, I accepted the fact that I would not be able to combine my hobby with my job. I was disheartened, and I couldn’t help but ask why “growing up” meant sacrificing doing what I love. JMG PR showed me that my profession and artistic abilities can go hand-in-hand.

The first time I photographed content for JMG’s Instagram account, I was in disbelief that I was assigned such a major role. I’ve read multiple articles on the factors that make Instagram accounts successful. Lighting, color schemes, and target audience were all on the long list of things to be mindful of when managing a business profile. The fact that Jenna entrusted me to capture JMG’s essence in a photograph and post it for her large following to see was incredibly intimidating, but it was also exhilarating. I remember plotting my course throughout the city, and capturing beautiful cityscapes for the account. It felt too good to be true. Finally, I felt that my eye for aesthetic made a difference. After that day, I continued to take photos for JMG’s social platforms, and prepare future content. I also created my first vision board for a new client and even Jenna herself. Everyday, I noticed a need for a fresh set of eyes that provided an artistic touch, making me realize that there is a need for my artistic hobbies at work.

Interning at JMG PR has taught me many valuable skills, but I’m most grateful for the realization that work doesn’t have to feel like an obligation. Everyday at JMG felt like working with friends. My coworkers were warm and made the office an exciting place to work in. Most important of all, JMG showed me that my love of art has a place in the workplace.

Thank you JMG PR for this experience! I’ll miss the team so much.
